CAS Vice President Prof. Hejun YIN Visits IHB

CAS vice president visited the Fish Collection at IHB

On July 9th, accompanied by deputy director general of the Bureau of High-Tech Research and Development (CAS) and Mr. Zhiqiang LUO, vice president of Wuhan Branch (CAS), Prof. Hejun YIN, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences visited Institute of Hydrobiology (CAS).

IHB’s leaders Prof. Jindong ZHAO, Prof. Zhengyu HU, Prof. Xudong XU, Mr. Shangzhen FAN met with CAS vice president Prof. Yin and introduced the basic facts and development of IHB to him. They emphasized three aspects: the environmental, ecological, social and economic benefits produced by water environment treatment, the great contribution made by high efficient fishery to rural income growth and settlement of rural issues, and the realization of a win-win situation that both social and economic development can be enhanced by giving full play to the advantages of IHB. With regard to the new experiment base to be set up in Liangzihu Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Hubei province, IHB’s director Prof. Jindong ZHAO said that it’s necessary to combine high efficient fishery and water environment treatment together so as to conduct demonstrative research at the base.

CAS vice president pointed out that IHB enjoys a long history and has a solid foundation for conducting researches. It develops fast in recent years and now that it faces such good opportunity, it should set up good strategic plans for future development. Chinese Academy of Sciences will make every effort to support IHB’s development.

CAS vice president also gave some suggestions. One is that IHB should closely connect its biological and environmental fields with high-tech field, e.g., monitoring means requires the support of remote sensing technology in the protection of freshwater resources and water pollution treatment also requires high-tech support. Another aspect is that IHB should first know what is in need currently in China and then provides its technical support in the fields such as constructed wetlands, desert control by desert algae etc.

CAS vice president visited the Museum for Aquatic Organisms and Fish Collection at IHB after the symposium.
