A three-member delegation led by FENG Feng, executive vice president of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), paid a visit to IHB on October 25, 2018.

A three-member delegation led by FENG Feng, executive vice president of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on October 25, 2018. Their visit was to discuss the development of the Department of Fisheries at UCAS College of Advanced Agricultural Sciences.

The College of Advanced Agricultural Sciences was established in January 2018. IHB plays a significant role in the development of the Department of Fisheries since it is one of the major supporting units of the department.

“We hope to get more information about the teachers’ needs and find effective ways to the graduate education,” Feng said.

SHI Dongqiao, head of the Office of Science and Education at Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology under the CAS, introduced the overview of the College of Advanced Agricultural Sciences and gave a work report on the disciplinary development, faculty resources, courses arrangement and students activities.

FENG Xi, head of the Office of Graduate Education at IHB, introduced the overview of IHB and the institute’s graduate enrollment and cultivation.

Both sides had a heated discussion and in-depth exchange on the issues of how to establish cooperation with agricultural colleges and universities or research institutes in foreign countries and how to develop the examination and the teaching modes of characteristic courses.

IHB Prof. ZHU Zuoyan, also CAS academician, said that teaching is different from lectures. “If a teaching guidance panel is established, the direction of the course content can be determined.” He also suggested the teachers and peers from other institutes and universities to discuss on how to arrange systematic courses with characteristics.

In his closing remarks, IHB’s deputy director Prof. YIN Zhan said that there are many challenges since the establishment of the College of Advanced Agricultural Sciences. “We have asked the faculty at IHB to accumulate their teaching experiences and improve their teaching level. IHB will cultivate top scientific personnel of agriculture for the country.” Yin said.
