  • IHB Researchers Attend Sixth National Forum on Cyanobacterial Blooms

    The sixth National Forum on Cyanobacterial Blooms was held at Northwest Agriculture and Forest University in Yangling, Shaanxi province during June 21 and 23, 2019.

    The sixth National Forum on Cyanobacterial Blooms, organized by the Phycology Division of the Chinese Society for Oceanology and Limnology, was held at Northwest Agriculture and Forest University in Yangling, Shaanxi province during June 21 and 23, 2019. 212 representatives from 65 institutions attended the forum. 20 researchers from Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the forum.    

    At the beginning of the forum, IHB Prof. LI Renhui, deputy secretary general of the Phycology Division of the Chinese Society for Oceanology and Limnology, introduced the historic development and goals of the forum.    

    IHB Prof. SONG Lirong, former chairman of the Phycology Division of the Chinese Society for Oceanology and Limnology, gave a keynote speech on the summary of the outcome of the 11th International Conference on Toxic Cyanobacteria just completed in May in Poland. Prof. Song’s presentation introduced the latest cyanobacterial blooms studies in the world.    

    There were 43 presentations in seven sessions, including six keynote speeches. The forum covered a range of topics from the current status of cyanobacterial blooms in China, the environmental hazards and ecological restoration strategies, to the major problems to be solved in the study of cyanobacterial bloom and lake eutrophication.   

    IHB Associate Profs. YU Gongliang, WU Xingqiang and Assistant Prof. WANG Zhicong gave oral presentations with the titles of “New dynamics of algae in Lake Qingdao under environmental changes”, “Study on the combined physical and biological control strategies of Microcystis bloom in eutrophic lakes”, and “Decomposition of cyanobacterial bloom contributes to the formation and distribution of iron-bound phosphorus (Fe-P)—Process,mechanism and it's enlightenment to ecological restoration”respectively.    

    At the closing ceremony, Prof. SONG Lirong encouraged the researchers to further study the outbreak mechanisms of cyanobacterial blooms and continue to guide and assist relevant government departments in the prevention and control of water blooms.
