The to-be-established station will focus on issues related to the major protection of the Yangtze River and the protection of rare and unique fish resources in the context of hydropower development in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

An Observation Station, jointly constructed by the Yangtze River basin fishery administration supervision and administration office under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, will be established in Fuxing county, Chishui city in Guizhou province.

The to-be-established station will focus on issues related to the major protection of the Yangtze River and the protection of rare and unique fish resources in the context of hydropower development in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River as well. Relevant research results will provide important theoretical basis and technical support for the protection of rare and unique fish resources in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and the restoration of river’s ecosystem.

The construction project started on November 6, 2019. The land area of the observation station is about 12,24 mu (1 mu=0.0667 hectares) and the total construction area of research is nearly 4000㎡.

Among them, the research comprehensive building on the first phase is about 1700㎡ while the second-phase research laboratory building is 2000㎡. The assistant building is 250㎡ and will be supported by water supply and drainage, gardening, and fire safety facilities. Meanwhile, 26 aquiculture ponds covering about 2000 ㎡ will be constructed.

With a total investment of over 15 million RMB, the first phase of the project is scheduled to start in November 2019 with the construction period lasting for 14 months.
