Dr. Panserat Stephane from French National Institute for Agricultural Research visited IHB on March 21, 2017.

Dr. Panserat Stephane from French National Institute for Agricultural Research and Dr.  Douglas Beard from U.S. Geological Survey paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on March 21, 2017. During their visit, they gave lectures with the titles of “Glucose intolerance in rainbow trout: a new genomic approach” and “Sustainable global inland fisheries, what does the future hold”.

Dr. Stephane introduced their researches which aimed at improving the basic knowledge about intermediary metabolism and nutritional physiology in fish species with a focus on glucose metabolism. The finalized impacts of his researches were for the aquaculture industry by trying to improve dietary carbohydrate use in fish through (i) development of adequate diet formulations based on the nutrient interactions, (ii) existence of fish lines showing different intermediary metabolism and (iii) development of the programming of metabolism after early biotic or abiotic stimuli. His lecture focused on the discovery of new metabolic enzymes through genome sequencing, and then discussed the effects of different feeds on the metabolic mechanism of rainbow trout.

Dr. Beard is chief of the U.S. Geological Survey National Climate Change and Wildlife Science Center. He introduced the results found by major research institutions in their reports about inland fisheries. He affirmed the contribution of China’s aquaculture to the world. He also made a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the distribution of fishing and aquaculture production and summarized the current situation of global inland fisheries and the development of fishery.
