  • American Tennis Player Lauren Davis Visits Baiji Dolphinarium

    IHB Prof. WANG Ding, president of Wuhan Baiji Conservation Foundation, introduced the living status and conservation progress of the Yangtze finless porpoises to Lauren Davis. 

    The American tennis player Lauren Davis who participated in the 2017 WTA Wuhan Open paid a visit to Baiji Dolphinarium at Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on Sept. 23, 2017.     

    At the breeding area of the porpoises, IHB Prof. WANG Ding who is also the president of Wuhan Baiji Conservation Foundation introduced the living status and conservation progress of the Yangtze finless porpoises to Lauren Davis. Walking with the trainees, Davis went to the platform which was set in the middle of the pool and shook hands with the porpoises.    

    Later, Davis signed her name on the background wall with the picture of the porpoise on it and appealed the public to protect the Yangtze River and the endangered porpoises.     

    IHBs deputy director Prof. HU Zhengyu gave a porpoise doll as a gift to Davis and invited her to pose a photo with all the volunteers and working staff.  

    Davis Laurence is a professional American tennis player. Known for her aggressive backhand, quickness, and clay-court ability, she has won seven singles titles on the ITF tour.

    Lauren Davis played with the Yangtze finless porpoises at Baiji Dolphinarium.

    Lauren Davis signed her name on the tennis balls.

    Prof. HU Zhengyu and Prof. WANG Ding sent gifts to Lauren Davis and her coach.
