Dr. HAO Yujiang (2nd R) from IHB introduced to Theresa May the cetacean conservation works carried out to protect the Yangtze finless porpoises.

British Prime Minister Theresa May arrived in Wuhan, capital city of central China’s Hubei Province, on January 31, 2018.

During her packed stay here, she visited Wuhan University, the Yellow Crane Tower, watched Peking Opera performance and toured to the Yangtze River side.

At the Yangtze River side, Dr. HAO Yujiang from Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences introduced to Theresa May the condition of aquatic resources in the Yangtze River and the cetacean conservation works carried out to protect the Yangtze finless porpoises.

Teresa May expressed appreciation for China’s efforts in protecting the Yangtze finless porpoises when she learned that the number of the porpoises showed signs of increase in some waters of the Yangtze River according to the preliminary results obtained during the 2017 Yangtze finless porpoise survey.

The prime minister also learned about the Sino-UK bilateral cooperation achieved in the water environment monitoring and environmental micro-plastic pollution.
