Dr. Vance L. Trudeau, Professor of the Department of Biology at University of Ottawa, paid a visit to IHB on Oct 25, 2018.

Dr. Vance L. Trudeau, Professor of the Department of Biology at University of Ottawa, paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on Oct 25, 2018 and gave a lecture with the title of “Neurohormonal regulation of radial glial cells”. He is also president of North American Society for Comparative Endocrinology (NASCE) and chief scientist of Neuroendocrinology.

Radial glial cells (RGCs) are special type of glial cells that are ubiquitous in the developmental central nervous system of vertebrate. RGCs have neural stem cell functions and can differentiate into neurons and other types of glial cells.

Prof. Trudeau isolated RGCs from goldfish and found RGCs are regulated by a variety of neurohormones, including Secretonurin and Dopamine, which play important roles in vertebrate reproductive development. His work is important for understanding the multifactorial regulation of RGCs.

Prof. Trudeau has established a long-term cooperative relationship with IHB Prof. HU Wei. The main purpose of Trudeau’s visit was to discuss their research progress and cooperation projects in the future with Prof. Hu.

IHB Prof. ZHU Zuoyan (CAS academician) interacted with Prof. Trudeau.
