Professor Peter Greenberg from the University of Washington visited IHB on October 11, 2019.

Professor Peter Greenberg from the University of Washington in Seattle gave a lecture for researchers and graduate students at Instituted of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on October 11, 2019. The topic of this lecture was “Pseudomonas aeruginosa quorum sensing, communication, currency and conflict in bacteria”.

Quorum sensing exists in the form of single cell of microorganism by producing and induction small molecule chemical signals to a wide range of information communication, which in the form of group and the external environment for the host to make collaborative response.

Prof. Greenberg showed his latest research advantage in Pseudomonas aeruginosa social biology. His lecture focused on why study microbial sociobiology, what are the "social cheating” in quorum sensing, the "policing of social cheating" in quorum sensing, the application of quorum sensing lab study on chronic cystic fibrosis lungs infection clinical therapeutic.

Prof. Greenberg is the member of the American National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and members of the American society for Microbiology.

He made a great contribution to microbial quorum - sensing and biofilm formation mechanism and opened a new field of vision in the field of microbiology research. He has been the PNAS journal editors since 2005 and achieved the Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine in 2015. Large number of his group’s results published in Nature, Science and PNAS. His group’s published more than 200 articles; citation is more than 35000 times.
