General Introduction:  

Focusing on ecological stoichiometry, aquatic food web interactions and biodiversity, the Research Group of Ecological Stoichiometry studies on how structure and function of aquatic ecosystem respond to environmental changes.  

Researchers from this group have constructed food webs for lakes in the Yangtze, the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and Tibet Plateau, and studied food chain length, omnivory, benthic-pleagic coupling, littoral food webs in both eutrophic and oligotrophic lake ecosystems. Meanwhile, they have also explored the carbon utilization by algae, diet shift, bioaccumulation, and parasitism in aquatic animals.  

Currently this group has 19 members, including researchers, research assistants, postdocs, PhD candidates, master students and joint students from universities. To date, they have published 136 papers in peer-reviewed journals (93 in SCI and 43 in Chinese journals), undertaken 30 projects, including the National Key S&T Special Projects and R&D Projects, and projects supported by the National Research Foundation of China. 

On-going projects: 

 * Interactions between properties of regional food webs and biodiversity, including aquatic food webs and functional diversity of lakes in Eastern plain, Tibet Plateau and Rivers in Yangtze 

* Climate change impacts on freshwater ecosystem functions. The project is aiming to understand how warming and extreme climate impact stoichiometry, energy transfer efficiency on algae, macrophytes, gastropods and fish 

* Ecological trophic niche of individual and population, to study their interactions with density of population, life-history traits, individual behavior, resource use efficiency and abundance 

* Ecological restoration application in aquatic ecosystems, carry out ecosystem healthy assessment, detecting ecological corridors, ecosystem safety evaluation and environmental policy suggestions.
