WU Xianwen (Hsien-Wen Wu, 伍献文), 1900-1985
CAS Member; Pioneer of fish taxonomy, morphology, physiology and hydrobiology in China, and one of the founders of Chinese Society for Oceanology and Limnology. He worked at IHB since 1932, where he served as director during 1978 and 1983, and director emeritus during 1983 and 1985.
Native of Ruan’an, Zhejiang Province.
In 1921, graduated from the Agriculture Department of Nanjing Higher Normal School.
In 1927, received his BSc degree at Xiamen University.
In 1932, received his Doctor of Science degree at University of Paris in France and served as foreign researcher in Paris Museum.
1933-1934, served as head of the Department of Zoology in Natural History Museum of Academia Sinica.
1934-1944, served as researcher at the Institute of Botany and Zoology at Academia Sinica.
1945-1950, served as researcher at the Institute of Zoology at Academia Sinica.
In 1948, elected as a member of Academia Sinica.
In 1955, Prof. Wu was elected as a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
