Life at IHB

Sunja CHO

Dr. Sunja CHO
Visiting scholar from Pusan National University, Korea

When I attended on the 7th Asian Pacific Phycological Forum (APPF 2014) held in Wuhan last September, I had the chance to visit the center of microalgal technology and biofuels belongs to the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. At that time, I hope to visit here again and luckily started my new year’s month of 2015 in Wuhan, China. I came from Korea and am working at Pusan National University. I have enjoyed every new experience from on the first day after arriving in Wuhan. The well-prepared stuffs at my dormitory room, even two small pots on the desk, made me feel warm-hearted consideration of Dr. Qiang Hu and his colleagues for my staying. Many newly set-up research instruments and well-experienced researchers are under a good harmony so it makes me enjoy my research here more.

My research is related to develop harvesting of microalgae and water reuse & recycling in the cultivation. I could magnify and clarify my research idea through active discussion with members workings at IHB (especially, CMBB) and listening several presentations on microalgal basic and application field during my staying period. I really appreciate to Dr. Hu and his colleagues on giving another bonus chance to visit the headquarter building of CMBB in Beijing as well as to take Beijing tour with the members working at IHB-CBMM in Wuhan. It makes me misunderstood myself as if I am not a visiting scholar here but a member of this CMBB.

Through this visit, I got more Chinese research friends, which is very helpful to enjoying my research life in this field. They welcome me as if I have been an old research friend even this is my second visit. I can’t forget their hospitality and generosity on me. Someday, I hope to invite them to my university too. Ah, I can’t skip to say the fantastic side-view of East Lake over the window of the laboratory. I loved it so much. Additionally, I enjoyed walking the streets which reach to Wuhan universities from this institute. Most Chinese people seem to be optimists and to have very healthy life-style such as they enjoy nap, tea, various seasonal fruits and nuts. Finally, I will leave for my country tomorrow, but I am looking forward next visiting here.
