The Second CHINA - KOREA JOINT SEMINAR: Progresses on Preservation and Exploitation of Microbia and Algae
Prof. Makoto M. Watanabe from Tsukuba University, Japan made keynote speeches at the Second CHINA - KOREA JOINT SEMINAR held at IHB during Oct 19 and 21.
The Second CHINA - KOREA JOINT SEMINAR---Progresses on Preservation and Exploitation of Microbia and Algae, jointly organized by Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) and Chinese Society of Phycology, was held at IHB during Oct 19 and 21, gatheirng more than 120 scholars from South Korea, Japan and China. The convenors of the seminar are Prof. Yeonhee Lee, Director General of Korea National Research Resource Center (KNRRC), and IHB Prof. SONG Lirong, head of the Research Center for Algal Biology and Applied Research at IHB.
Prof. Yeonhee Lee and YANG Xiangyun, Professor of China Germplasm Bank of Wild Species, respectively introduced the developing status and prospect of preservation and exploitation of microbia and algae in South Korea and China. Scholars from Korea National Plant Research Resources Center (KNPRRC), as well as scholars from Marine Microalgae Culture Center,Ginseng Bank, Citrus Genetic Resources Bank which are affiliated to KNRRC introduced their current research and application of microalgal biotechnology, the current status of biological resources preservation in their banks at the seminar. Scholars from China General Microbiological Culture Collection Center, China Center for Type Culture Collection of Wuhan University, Seaweed Culture Collection Center and Freshwater Algae Culture Collection introduced the updated development of their respective collection centers and the centers' roles in the challenging society etc.
All the speakers who made presentations at the seminar are well-known scholars in their respective fields.Three professors who made keynote speeches at the seminar are Prof. LIU Yongding from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Makoto M. Watanabe from Tsukuba University, Japan and Prof. WU Qingyu from Tsinghua University. Other attendees introduced their own research progress for the audience.
The seminar was jointly sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), National Research Foundation of Korea (NRC) and State Key Laboratory of Freshwater Ecology and Biotechnology (FEBL).
The 1st CHINA - KOREA JOINT SEMINAR, one of the sessions of the 1st Asian network for research resource center & the 1st Asian chapter meeting of ISBER (International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories) which was organized by Korea National Research Resources Center, was held in Seoul, South Korea, during Sept.22 to 26, 2009.
