The First Sino-British Forum on Algal Biotechnology and Biological Resources
The 1st Sino-British Forum on Algal Biotechnology and Biological Resources was held at IHB from September 18-21, 2018.
The 1st Sino-British Forum on Algal Biotechnology and Biological Resources was held at Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences from September 18-21, 2018.
This forum, with the main topic of “Power of Microalgal Biotechnology: Resources, Environment and Energy”, was jointly organized by the Key Laboratory of Algal Biology at IHB and the British PHYCONET Association. A total of 265 people attended this forum, including 17 British members from well-known research institutions and companies, such as University College London, Cambridge, University of Cambridge, GlycoMar Company and so on, and Chinese algae researchers from IHB and other institutes, universities and companies.
Prof. YIN Zhan, director of IHB, attended the forum and gave a welcome speech. He pointed out that the successful holding of this forum would promote the research development of algae biotechnology and biological resources in China and Britain, and contribute to sustainable development of energy, resources and environment of China.
A total of 36 researchers from Chinese and British research institutes, universities and companies shared excellent academic reports, including the field of tool boxes/synthetic biology, application in environmental control, energy production and CO2 mitigation, and food and human health.
In the panel discussion hosted by IHB Prof. HU Qiang Hu, Prof. HAN Danxiang, Prof. WEI Dong Wei from South China University of Technology, Dr. Alison Hughes from University College London and Mr. Marco Lizzul from Varicon Aqua Solutions Ltd. discussed the research developments and future directions of microalgae biotechnology and bioenergy.
During the forum, 28 posters from China and Britain participated in the poster presentation and 6 excellent posters were selected. The Organizing Committee awarded certificates and prizes to the winners.
After the forum, the Chinese and British guests visited the Center for microalgal Biotechnology and Biofuels, China Zebrafish Resource Center, Museum of Hydrobiological Sciences, and Baiji Dolphinarium.
