Scholars from Polish Inland Fisheries Institute Visit IHB

Prof. Malgorzata Godlewska made a presentation at IHB on April 29.
A polish delegation consisting of scholars from Polish Inland Fisheries Institute paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on April 29. The visiting Prof. Malgorzata Godlewska made a presentation entitled “Hydroacoustic measurements of fish and macrophytes in Poland”, Prof. Andrzej Hutorowicz made a presentation entitled “Paleobiological and historical data on lake plankton communities as the basis for reference conditions” and Dr. Agnieszka Napiorkowska made a presentation entitled “Ecological state assessment of lakes in the Wel catchment based on phytoplankton” respectively during their visit.

Prof. Godlewska has been engaged in the study of freshwater ecology and aquatic resources evaluation based on acoustical methods for 25 years. In her presentation, she explained how acoustical methods are applied in the study of distribution, immigration and congregation of fish species as well as in the coverage rate of submerged macrophytes, their height and distribution. Prof. Andrzej Hutorowicz is the deputy director of Polish Inland Fisheries Institute. He mainly studies lake ecology, with specific concentration on lake ecology assessment, lake ecology degradation and reconstruction as well as aquatic plant invasion. In his presentation, he mainly introduced the assessment approach of lake ecology based on algal community structure. Dr. Agnieszka Napiorkowska displayed the assessment approach of lake ecology based on the analysis of phytoplankton in his presentation.

The current visit of the Polish scholars enhances the mutual understanding and academic exchanges between IHB and the Polish Inland Fisheries Institute.

The Polish Inland Fisheries Institute is the only national institution that devotes its study to freshwater fishery in Poland. It has a history of more than 60 years.
