Prof. IAN BEVERIDGE from Australia Visits IHB
Prof. IAN BEVERAGE, a well-know veterinary parasitologist, paid a visit to IHB, Nov 19.
Prof. IAN BEVERAGE, a well-known veterinary parasitologist, paid a visit to the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on Nov. 19. During his visit, he delivered a lecture entitled “Anisakid nematodes in fish: research in Australia” to the IHB audiences.
Prof. Beveridge gave his emphasis on the taxonomic features and life cycles of the anisakid nematodes, a group parasite of with scarce research, of bony fish in Australia. He also introduced the work of applying the molecular markers to conduct the genotype of these parasites. He suggested to initiate a cooperation to uncover more biological knowledge of these parasites between scientists in China and Australia for these parasites which will cause severe allergic dermatitis, especially for the worker on sea food. The wonderful pictures and vivid disease cases in the lectures made a good impression to all audiences. Prof. Nie Pin and researchers and graduated students with common interests were present in this lecture and gave a hot communication on the taxonomy, life cycle of fish parasitic worms and others fields.
Ian Beveridge is Professor of Veterinary Parasitology in the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne. His research interests include systematics and biology of helminth (round worms) and arthropod (ecto) parasites of marsupials, systematics of cestodes (tapeworms) of elasmobrachs (sharks, rays, skates), ticks, and diagnosis and pathogenesis of helminth infections in domestic animals. He has produced eleven book chapters, eight monographs, 270 papers in refereed scientific journals, including many on diseases and parasites of Australian wildlife and now is the vice chief editor of International Journal for Parasitology.
