IHB to Sponsor 10th International Conference of Toxic Cyanobacteria in 2016
Prof. Song Lirong applied to sponsor the ICTC 10 |
The 9th International Conference of Toxic Cyanobacteria (ICTC9) was held in Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa from August 11 to 16, 2013. Hundreds of experts and scholars from 24 countries attended this Conference.
There were 2 keynote speeches, more than 70 oral presentations and 40 posters in this Conference. Prof. Song Lirong from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) presented a keynote speech entitled “How bloom-forming Cyanobacterium Microcystis persists and recurs in ever-changing environments? – An ecophysiological approach” and Prof. Stephan Pflugmacher from Germany gave the other keynote speech about “Ecotoxicology of toxic Cyanobacteria: What we know so far- What we would like to know in future”. Meanwhile, Prof. Song and his graduate student Jia Yunlu gave oral presentations on “Comparative study on the cyanobacterial bloom dynamics in the three large shallow lakes of China” and “Potential risks of using mechanically collectedcyanobacterial blooms for crop irrigation: Toxicity and bioaccumulation study with Arabidopsis thaliana”.
The ICTC9 with the theme of “Living with toxigenic cyanobacteria” included 8 topics: 1. Microcystins production: Biosynthesis, regulation and physiological function; 2. Other cyanotoxins production: Biosynthesis and regulation; 3. Ecology and Bloom Dynamics of Toxigenic Cyanobacteria; 4. Monitoring, Management and Treatment; 5. Ecotoxicology; 6. Toxicology and Epidemiology; 7. Detection and Analysis; 8. Incidence and Exposure Risk. Ordinarily, the Conference has no parallel sessions, every talk is plenary. All the attendees can fully present their research progress and interact with others on various topics.
The International Conference of Toxic Cyanobacteria held every three years. The next conference (ICTC10) will be sponsored by IHB in Wuhan, China (2016).
