Russian Fish Parasitologists Cooperate with IHB on Microsporidians and Myxosporeans of Aquatic Animals in Fuhe River and Poyang Lake

Prof. Voronin (L) and Dr. Batueva had a field trip to the Poyang Lake and Fu River Basin.

Two Russian fish parasitologists, namely Prof. Voronin Vladimir from St. Petersburg State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Dr. Batueva Marina from Institute of General and Experimental Biology, Siberian Brach of Russian Academy of Sciences, paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) during July 20 and August 3, 2014.

Both visiting Russian scientists cooperate with the researchers of the Research Group of Healthy Aquaculture at IHB on a project supported by the 2014 NSFC-RFBR Joint Research Communication Program. Both sides reviewed on their already achieved progress and discussed on some details concerning with the carry-out of this project. They also drew up the cooperative work plan for 2015.

Later, both the Russian and Chinese scientists conducted a 10-day field trip on the microparasites of aquatic animals in the Poyang Lake and Fuhe River Basin. They collected Chinese isolates of two myxosporeans, i.e. Myxidium rohodei and Zschokkela nova to analyze the geophylogenetic differentiation of these two widely distributed species.

During their visit, Prof. Voronin and Dr. Batueva gave oral presentations with the title of Microsporidians of freshwater invertebrates in Russia and Fish Myxosporeans in Baikal Lake, Russia, respectively. They had extensive interaction with IHB researchers on issues of mutual interest.

Prof. Voronin performed parasitological examination.

IHB Prof. WANG Jianguo (L) gave the book Fish Disease as a present to the visiting Russian scientists.
