On November 17th, Prof. Tony J. Pitcher and his wife Dr. Mimi E. Lam from University of British Columbia, Canada paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB).

During the visit, Pitcher gave a report entitled “Some uncertainties in enhancing capture fisheries production”. He introduced the models for forecasting fisheries production and gave some examples of ecological theory concepts. As ecological theory is weak and contested, implementing theory in models is challenging. By some forecast case studies, Pitcher introduced the role of ecology in achieving global food security.

Dr. Lam also gave a presentation with the title of “The role of ecology in achieving global food security under uncertainties”. She introduced the concept of food security and emphasized the importance of management scenarios in fisheries production.

After the lecture, Pitcher and Lam visited the Donghu Experimental Station of Lake Ecosystems.
