Dr. Dominique P. Bureau from University of Guelph, Canada paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on Feb. 25, 2016. During his visit, he made a presentation with the title of “Modeling growth and feed requirements of fish and shrimp under commercial conditions, matching scientific data and improved efficiency and sustainability”. Dr. Petrus Hidayat, general manager from Aquaculture Department of Japfa Comfeed Group, Indonesia, and Dr. Wang Chunfang, Associate Professor of College of Fisheries at Huazhong Agriculture University also visited IHB with Dr. Dominique.

Dr. Bureau presented a method which uses mathematical models to analyze data in aquaculture. He showed how to analyze research data and use the models in practice. By modification of existing model, mathematical model can predict the growth potential of cultured fish under different life stages and conditions.

Dr. Bureau is a well-known animal nutritionist whose research interests include nutrients utilization by different fish species, evaluation of cost-effective feed formulation, management of environmental impacts on aquaculture, development of mathematical models of growth and nutrient utilization for fish and shrimp. Dr. Bureau manages the Fish Nutrition Research Laboratory at University of Guelph, Canada.
