IHB Researchers Attend 16th International Symposium on Microbial Ecology

The 16th International Symposium on Microbial Ecology (ISME16) was held from Aug. 21 to 26 at Palais des Congres in Montreal, Canada. More than 2000 microbial ecologists from all over the word attended this grand meeting. Prof. Yu Yuhe and Dr. Yan Qingyun, from the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) were invited to attend this symposium.

Dr. Yan Qingyun gave an oral presentation entitled "Decade-long Repeatable Seasonal Diversity Patterns of Bacterioplankton Communities in Lake Donghu". He presented their systemic study in Lake Donghu across the past decade about the bacterioplankton community assembly mechanisms. His presentation attracted widespread interests and extensive discussion. The work he presented is a cooperative study finished by the research Research Group of Taxonomy and Ecology of Protozoa from the IHB and the Institute for Environmental Genomics from USA.

The International Symposium on Microbial Ecology was organized by the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) every two years, and the next Symposium (i.e., ISME17) will be held in 2018 at Leipzig, Germany.
