Prof. Vance L. Trudeau from University of Ottawa visits IHB

Dr. Vance L. Trudeau visited IHB on Jan. 10, 2018.

On Janurary 10, 2018, Dr. Vance L. Trudeau, Professor of the Department of Biology at University of Ottawa, president of North American Society for Comparative Endocrinology (NASCE) and chief scientist of Neuroendocrinology, was invited to visit Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences and gave a lecture with the title of “Integrative neuroendocrine control of teleost reproduction: multiplicity and evolutionary conservation”.

Fish reproduction is regulated by various neuroendocrine factors, including Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), Dopamine etc. Prof. Trudeau introduced a new neuropeptide, Secretoneurin (SN), which was found to play a role in fish reproduction by his research group. SN is a neuropeptide derived from rather larger Secretogranin II (SgII) precursor protein. In vivo and in vitro results have shown SN can stimulate LH production and release, indicating an important role in reproduction.

After the lecture, IHB scientists and students further discussed with Prof. Trudeau on issues of common interest.

Recent years, Prof. Trudeau has established a long-term cooperative relationship with IHB Prof. HU Wei. The main purpose of his visit was to discuss cooperation projects with Prof. Hu in the future.
