Solomon Islands Official Delegation Visits IHB to Learn from Yangtze River Conservation Efforts

On the afternoon of August 26, an official delegation from the Solomon Islands visited the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to study and discuss the achievements of the Yangtze River conservation efforts.

XU Jun, deputy director of IHB, welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of IHB's progress in the decade-long fishing ban, monitoring and protection of aquatic resources, and ecological restoration efforts. Associate Prof. HAO Yujiang highlighted the advancements in the conservation of the Yangtze finless porpoise, sharing innovative approaches in scientific research, protection practices, public participation, and policy collaboration led by the Chinese government and researchers.

The official delegation also toured the institute's Museum of Hydrobiological Sciences and the Baiji Dolphinarium. Delegates expressed appreciation for the opportunity to closely observe the Yangtze finless porpoise and rare aquatic species specimens, gaining valuable insights into China's scientific and conservation efforts. They expressed interest in applying China's experience to better balance economic development and environmental protection.
