YANG Lei, Professor from Taiwan Sun Yat-sen University Appointed as Visiting Professor at IHB
Prof. YANG Lei from Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan was appointed as Visiting Professor at Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on March 26, 2012. He is the first Taiwan professor who has been appointed as Visiting Professor at IHB.
IHB’s director Prof. ZHAO Jindong presented the letter of appointment to Prof. YANG Lei (L), the first Taiwan professor who has been appointed as Visiting Professor at IHB, March 26.
The appointing ceremony was chaired by Mr. HU Xingyue, senior officer of the Office of Human Resources and Education at IHB. IHB’s director Prof. ZHAO Jindong first presented the letter of appointment to Prof. Yang at the ceremony. Then, Prof. Yang gave a lecture on “Carbon Emission Reduction Effect of Constructed Wetlands”, and introduced the research works carried out by Sun Yat-sen University in environmental and engineering areas. Prof. Yang also had an extensive interaction with IHB scholars and students on future cooperation and academic exchanges between the Institute and the University in some related fields.
Being an internationally well-known ecological engineer, Prof. Yang is currently the director of the Department of Marine Environment and Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University, the principal of Wetlands Taiwan and the principal of Taiwan Wetland Society. He has made systematic achievements in constructed wetlands, plant restoration and water pollution control.
In 2008, Prof. Yang, together with IHB Prof. WU Zhenbin, launched and organized the first Mainland-Taiwan Conference for Constructed Wetland. So far, this conference has been held in Wuhan, Kaohsiung and Haikou for three consecutive years. The fourth Conference will be held in Taipei this month. The conference provides a significant platform for scientists from both Mainland and Taiwan to communicate with each other in ecological engineering and etc.
