The 1st Freshwater Ecology Seminar was held at Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on Dec. 5, 2013. With the theme of "Scientific philosophy and ecological methodology", the seminar consisted of eight oral presentations.
Prof. Wang Hongzhu, director of the Research Center for Freshwater Ecology at IHB, gave a presentation entitled "Translational Limnology: Philosophy, Methodology and Case Study", which brought forth the concept of "translational limnology" and how it addresses the issues of the fundamental studies of limnology and eutrophication.
Other attendees including Associate Prof. Cai Xiaobin from Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Associate Prof. Xu Jun, Assistant Prof. Ye Lin and graduate student Li Jing from IHB gave presentations on Space-based Information Technology, isotope technology, image recognition technology, age determination of bivalve mollusks etc. Associate Prof. Wang Haijun, Associate Prof. Gong Yingchun and doctoral student Li Yan from IHB gave presentations on predictive limnology, protozoology and experimental limnology.
The Freshwater Ecology Seminars, organized by the Research Center for Freshwater Ecology, aims at strengthening the young scientists' study of scientific philosophy and ecological methodology and enhancing mutual interaction and cooperation. The seminars is planned to be held every month.
