IHB Holds 2014 Spring Meeting on Strategic Development

 
The 2014 Spring Meeting on Strategic Development of the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) was held during May 13 and 14, 2014.
The 2014 Spring Meeting on Strategic Development of the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) was held during May 13 and 14, 2014. Four academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as directors, professors, PIs and administrative principals attended this meeting.   

At the meeting, Prof. ZHAO Jindong, CAS academician and director of IHB, gave a keynote speech on some thinkings of the strategic development of the institute. He introduced the overview of the institute from the personnel construction, scientific outcomes, platform construction and the implementation of the institutes One-Three-Five Development Planning. He also proposed some suggestions on how to share resources inside and outside the institute and how to build it up as a world class institute.    

In the session of free discussion, attendees shared their thoughts and suggestions on the personnel disposition and development of research group, professional title appraisal regulations, and the adjustment of financial management regulations.    

 
During the meeting, the attendees visited the Wuhan Contemporary Ecological Fisheries R&D Base located in Jiangxia district, Wuhan.

Prof. ZHU Zuoyan, CAS academician, agreed with Prof. Zhaos strategic analysis and development thinking of the institute. He stressed that the performance evaluation of researchers shall resort to a combination of both quantitative and qualitative approaches.    

Prof. CHEN Yiyu, CAS academician, put forward four pieces of advice: 1. to expatiate on the research goals and directions in a much broader sense; 2. have courage to face the frontier scientific issues and be brave to solve them; 3. pay attention to disciplinary development and give full play to the function of research centers; 4. take good advantage of various means of mass communication.
