Delegation from Bureau of Fishery Administration in the East China Sea, MOA Visits IHB

 

 The visiting delegation visited the Baiji Dolphinarium.

A three-member delegation led by HAN Xu, deputy director general of the Bureau of Fishery Administration in the East China Sea under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on June 12.    

Prof. HU Zhengyu, deputy director of IHB, welcomed the visiting delegation. Han Xu introduced the overview of the the Bureau of Fishery Administration in the East China Sea and hoped to get support from IHB in the fields of ecological and biological resources conservation in the Yangtze River.    

Dr. HAO Yujiang gave a presentation on the living status and conservation the Yangtze finless porpoises, introducing the living status of the Yangtze finless porpoises, the major threats they face and how the conservative measures being carried out. Prof. LIU Huanzhang and Prof. XIE Songguang introduced the resources of wild aquatic life in the Yangtze River from their own research perspective. They said the ten-year fishing ban put forth by Prof. CAO Wenxuan is a necessary means to promote the fishery sustainable development in the Yangtze River. Both professors suggested a comprehensive evaluation of the aquatic resources in the Yangtze River so that more thorough conservative regulations can be formulated. 

 

 The visiting delegation visited the Baiji Dolphinarium.

   

HAN Xu said in the conclusion remarks that IHBs suggestions are subjective and will be what the Bureau should make efforts to achieve. Han hoped that with support from IHB, a database of Yangtze resources can be established so as to protect the ecology of the Yangtze River.    

The visiting delegation also visited the Baiji Dolphinarium.
