Deputy Director of Hubei Provincial Agriculture Office Visits IHB

 
A six-member delegation led by CHEN Kuanhong, deputy director of Hubei Provincial Agriculture Office, paid a visit to IHB on Sept. 15, 2014. 

A six-member delegation led by CHEN Kuanhong, deputy director of Hubei Provincial Agriculture Office, paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on Sept. 15, 2014.    

The deputy director of Hubei Provincial Agriculture Office introduced the status of water environment and water resources in Hubei. He hoped their current visit could help exchange views with IHB experts on issues related to water.    

Prof. HE Feng, head of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at IHB, introduced the historical development and research directions of the institute. IHB Profs. WU Zhenbin, WANG Hongzhu and NI Leyi shared their research findings in the R&D of constructed wetland technologies, utilization of water resources in Hubei and water ecological restoration and water environment protection etc. They also analyzed what factors may cause water environment issues and put forth their opinions and suggestions as well.    

IHBs deputy director Prof. XU Xudong suggested that a multi-level collaborative approach shall be resorted to so as to treat the water environment problems; the protection of lakes shall be based on both the legislation and the development planning of lakes; the responsibility system of chief executive officer shall be established and the related mechanisms and systems shall be improved; the ecological restoration engineering shall be carried out on the basis of a comprehensive sewage interception method. Prof. Xu voiced his hope that the rivers and lakes in Hubei Province could someday be restored to its original condition.  
  

Later, the visiting delegation also visited the Museum for Aquatic Organisms.
