Symposium on Yangtze Finless Porpoises Conservation Held in Wuhan

 
The Symposium on Yangtze Finless Porpoises Conservation, organized by IHB was held in Wuhan on Dec. 24, 2014. 
The Symposium on Yangtze Finless Porpoises Conservation, organized by Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) was held in Wuhan on Dec. 24, 2014. About 40 people from different departments and organizations attended the symposium.   

The symposium was chaired by ZHAO Yimin, head of the Yangtze River Fishery Resources Committee. Zhao said that the Yangtze finless porpoises are now in a much endangered situation. While keep carrying out the conservation measures, different authorities involved in the conservation of the Yangtze finless porpoises should make clear of their own responsibilities.    

IHB Prof. WANG Kexiong introduced the ex-situ conservation status of the Yangtze finless porpoises and reported the census of the Yangtze finless porpoises in the Tian-e-Zhou Oxbow Nature Reserve. All the attendees agreed that the Yangtze finless porpoises are in a critically endangered situation and that more efforts shall be put into the conservation task.  
  

In the end, ZHAO Yimin gave a closing remark. He said that the ex-situ conservation of the Yangtze finless porpoises is urgent and of significance. Authorities at different levels shall work together so as to push forward the construction of the ex-situ conservation reserve of the Yangtze finless porpoises in Hewangmiao Oxbow.
