Transgenic Fish in the Spotlight: IHB Joins 2015 Hubei Science Week

 
The 2015 Science Week of Hubei Province was launched in the S&T city of Daijiashan in Wuhan on the morning of May 16, 2015.  

The 2015 Science Week of Hubei Province was launched in the S&T city of Daijiashan in Wuhan on the morning of May 16, 2015. This is the first time that the major venue of the activities has been set up in an S&T incubation zone. The purpose of the science week is to promote social and economic development as well as the public wellbeing by publicizing the latest S&T achievements in innovation. Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) joined the serial activities held during this Week.    

At the launching ceremony, some finger-sized fish were very popular among the public. They are not ordinary ornamental fish, but are the all fish” growth hormone transgenic common carp cultivated by IHB scientists. As a volunteer, IHB Prof. HU Wei introduced the transgenic fish to the passengers who showed great interest in this. There were also some fun quizzes for the public to participate in.    

The Hubei Science Week was held from May 16 through 24, 2014. During this period, IHB opened the State Key Laboratory of Freshwater Ecology and Biotechnology, Baiji Dolphinarium and Museum for Aquatic Organisms to the public with free admission.  

 
As a volunteer, IHB Prof. HU Wei introduced the transgenic fish to the passengers who showed great interest in this.
