IHB Researchers Attend Symposium on Yangtze Finless Porpoises Conservation of Jiangsu Province

 
The Symposium on Yangtze Finless Porpoises Conservation of Jiangsu Province was held in Nanjing on June 8, 2015.  

The Symposium on Yangtze Finless Porpoises Conservation of Jiangsu Province was held in Nanjing on June 8, 2015. Prof. WANG Ding and Prof. WANG Kexiong from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) were invited to attend the meeting. More than 60 representatives from different universities, institutions, organizations and local media were present at the meeting.    

Prof. WANG Kexiong introduced the population status and conservation measures of the Yangtze finless porpoises. Prof. WANG Ding summed up the major progress made in the conservation of the Yangtze finless porpoises over the past few years with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and governments and departments at provincial and ministry level. He stressed the basic strategies to be adopted in the conservation of the Yangtze finless porpoises and proposed some suggestions to the future work.  

LI Yanliang and ZHAO Yimin from Yangtze River fishery resources management committee under the Ministry of Agriculture attended the symposium and gave important remarks. XU Ming, vice governor of Jiangsu Province said in the closing remark that the relationship between economic development and environment protection shall be tackled in a proper way. He also urged the Jiangsu Provincial Government to adopt effective measures, e.g. the construction of conservation zone, to strengthen the conservation of biodiversity in the Yangtze River.

 
IHB Prof. WANG Kexiong introduced the population status and conservation measures of the Yangtze finless porpoises at the symposium.
