Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) and Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISS) jointly organized an academic activity that aimed at promoting innovation ability among the young scientists during July 14 and 15, 2015. Eight members of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association (YIPS) from ISS came to visit IHB.

On the afternoon of July 14, a workshop was held to enhance academic interaction between the young scientists at IHB and ISS. Prof. HU Zhengyu, deputy director of IHB, as well as LV Junjie, head of the Personnel Department of ISS, gave speeches respectively. They also introduced the overview of talent cultivation in their respective institute.

Later, six IHB and ISS researchers who are members of the YIPS gave presentations to introduce their recent research progress. Other participants interacted with the speakers on issues of mutual interest. After the workshop, the participants exchanged views on the policies pertaining to the talent cultivation and on how to accumulate research experiences and enhance research  ability among the young scientists.

On the morning of July 15, participants from ISS visited the Museum for Aquatic Organisms, Freshwater Algae Culture Collection, China Zebrafish Resource Center. They invited IHB researchers who are the members of YIPS to visit ISS in the near future.

The YIPS, established in June 2011, is a non-profit young scientists association that is approved by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) to promote talent development against the background of Innovation 2020. Every year, CAS selects one or two young scientists under 35 years old from each CAS institute to join in the YIPS. This is aimed at strengthening the cultivation of young scientists and enhancing their research ability and comprehensive qualities. So far, IHB has had eight YIPS members.
