Prof. ZHAO Jindong, CAS academician and director of IHB, gave a keynote speech.

The 2015 Autumn Meeting on Strategic Development of the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) was held on Sept. 15, 2015. Three academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as directors, professors, PIs and administrative principals of IHB attended this meeting.      

At the meeting, Prof. ZHAO Jindong, CAS academician and director of IHB, gave a keynote speech on the strategic development of the institute during the 13^th Five-Year Plan Period (2016-2020). He first summed up the institute’s development achievements made during the 12^th Five-Year Plan Period (2011-2015), including the breakthroughs achieved in some major research directions and how the institute faced the challenges by resorting to various countermeasures. Then he looked forward to a more fruitful stage of development during the next five years.    

In the session of free discussion, attendees shared their thoughts and suggestions on how to seek more funds and promote the disciplinary development and the overall academic level during 2016-2020. They also discussed issues on the platform construction, personnel structure adjustment and graduate education.  

Based on the achievements during 2011-2015, Prof. Zhao said in his conclusion remarks that the strategic development plan for 2016-2020 shall make clear the following issues: more efforts shall be put into the three major breakthroughs which center on freshwater, fish and algae; five research directions shall be determined based on the requirements for Feature Institutes; the strengths of IHB shall be given fuller play. Prof. Zhao also reported the construction status of Wuhan Contemporary Ecological Fisheries R&D Base.
