2015 Annual Symposium of Hubei Society of Oceanology & Limnology was held at Wuhan Botanical Garden (WBG), Chinese Academy of Sciences on Oct. 11, 2015. The seminar was jointly organized by WBG & Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB), Chinese Academy of Sciences. About 180 representatives from Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science & Technology, China University of Geosciences, Huazhong Agricultural University, Institute of Hydroecology, Ministry of Water Resources & Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the seminar.  

The opening ceremony was chaired by WBG Prof. LI Wei, deputy director of WBG. Prof. ZHANG Quanfa, chairman of Hubei Society of Oceanology & Limnology and IHB Prof. WANG Hongzhu addressed at the opening ceremony respectively. 

The main subject of the symposium was water environment health and ecological restoration. Prof. SONG Lirong from IHB, GU Yansheng from China University of Geosciences, Prof. Stuart Bunn from Griffith University, and Prof. LI Wei from WBG gave plenary lectures with the titles of “Warning and control ecology of cyanobacterial bloom”, “Lake nutrients accumulation process from lacustrine records in the Middle reaches of the Yangtze River in the recent hundred years”, “Food web subsidies in floodplain rivers” and “The theory and practice of reconstruction of hydrophytic vegetation in water bodies with degeneration of ecosystems” respectively. Two mini symposiums with the topics of aquatic environmental pollution and eutrophication & ecological restoration were also held during the seminar.  

As the tradition goes, the forum awarded 4 best oral presentations for postgraduates so as to encourage young students to conduct academic exchanges. 

Hubei Society of Oceanology & Limnology is a provincial, academic and non-profit organization, composed voluntarily of units of water research and individuals. It consists of aquatic organisms, water environment, and eco-hydrological committee. The annual symposium provides a chance for scientific communications and collaborations in the diverse field of water research. It will be held in Hubei University in 2016.
