2015 Annual Meeting of Chinese Wetland Ecosystem Research Station Alliance Held in Wuhan
The 2015 Annual Meeting of Chinese Wetland Ecosystem Research Station Alliance was held in Wuhan from Jan. 12 to 13, 2016.
The 2015 Annual Meeting of Chinese Wetland Ecosystem Research Station Alliance was held in Wuhan from Jan. 12 to 13, 2016. The meeting was organized by the Chinese Wetland Ecosystem Research Station Alliance and undertaken by Donghu Lake Ecosystem Experimental Station which is affiliated to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB). More than 50 researchers from different departments, universities and institutes attended the meeting.
The annual meeting was chaired by IHB Prof. XIE Ping who is also the president of the Alliance. ZHOU Jie, director of the Division of Resources and Environment of the Bureau of Science & Technology for Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), together with IHB’s deputy director Prof. XU Xudong gave welcome speeches respectively. IHB Prof. CAO Te gave an oral presentation on the 2015 work report of the Alliance and looked forward to the work to be done in 2016. Based on the topic “the effect of the Three Gorges Dam on the ecology of Three Gorges Reservoir region and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River”, the attendees gave presentations and exchanged views with each other. Three new members to the Alliance introduced their operational status.
Prof. YANG Ping from the Division of Resources and Environment of the Bureau of Science & Technology for Development, CAS positively commented on the progress achieved by the Alliance and hoped that all the experimental stations under the Alliance shall strengthen their cooperation, thus enhancing the wetland study in China and providing theoretical basis for the national wetland conservation and ecological civilization construction.
The Chinese Wetland Ecosystem Research Station Alliance was launched by Chinese Academy of Sciences, State Forestry Administration, research institutions directly under ministries and commissions of the Central Government, and national key universities. It is coordinated by the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) Sub-center for Aquatic Ecosystems. At present, it consists of 27 field stations which conduct observation and research on wetland ecosystem. The Alliance has formulated standard indicators for the field monitoring of wetland ecology and conducted long-term cooperative research on the structure and function of wetland ecosystem.
