Prof. LUO Jie from College of Life Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University paid a visit to IHB on April 7, 2016.
On April 7th, Prof. LUO Jie from College of Life Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB). During his visit, he gave a presentation with the title of “The metabonomics of plants and the analysis of phenotype” for IHB researchers and students.
Metabolomics is an emerging omics technology after genomics and proteomics and it tends to qualify and quantify all metabolites of small molecular weight in an organism of cells. Plant metabolites are extremely diverse in terms of their classes, content, and functions, and plant metabolomics therefore is an important part of metabolomics. In his presentation, Prof. Luo introduced the application of metabolomics in fundamental research of plant biology which is based on the research development of transcription and metabolism co-expression, population genetics and comparative study.
With the development of genomics and mass spectrometry, Prof. Luo’s lab developed a new tool called widely targeted metabolomics which can simultaneously detect several kinds of metabolites. This tool had advantages of high sensitivity and quantitative accuracy, and promoted the progress of forward genetics.
Prof. Luo has long been engaged in the study of plant secondary metabolism and metabolomics. In recent years, he has made outstanding progress in genetic and biochemical basis research of plant metabolomics. He was invited to give keynote reports at important international conferences in related field many times.
