Domestic Aquatic Laboratory Animal: Gobiocypris rarus Displayed at 2016 National Science Day in Hubei

 

 Gobiocypris rarus displayed at 2016 National Science Day in Hubei

The opening ceremony of the 2016 National Science Day in Hubei was held at Wuhan Brach, Chinese Academy of Sciences on Sept. 14, 2016. The theme for this year’s Science Day was “Let innovation realize dreams and let science lead the future”. More than 800 people attended the opening ceremony.  

Volunteers from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) displayed the domestic aquatic laboratory animal Gobiocypris rarus at the opening ceremony. Gobiocypris rarus is a species of cyprinid fish endemic to China. It is the only species in its genus. This is the first time that Gobiocypris rarus has been displayed for the scientific popularization purpose. Gobiocypris rarus soon drew the attention of the passengers.  

Meanwhile, Baiji Dolphinarium of IHB set up a stand to appeal the public to protect the Yangtze River and the endangered aquatic wildlife.
