A delegation led by ZHANG Yaping, vice president of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on February 22, 2017. His visit was to inspect the progress achieved by IHB in the construction of itself into a feature institute as proposed in the Pioneer Initiative launched by the CAS.    

YAN Qing, director general of the Bureau of Science and Technology for Development, CAS, first introduced the purpose of the CAS vice president’s visit. ZHAO Jindong, director of IHB, introduced IHB’s work carried out in its construction of the feature institute from the aspects of system and mechanism reforms, service projects supporting the construction, implementation of the thirteenth Five Year Plan and so on. He said that as the construction of feature institute carrying on, IHB had integrated different research directions, gradually decreased low-level repetitive works, and increased work efficiency and academic level. Prof. CAO Wenxuan (CAS academician) introduced the 10-year fishing ban proposed in the Yangzte River.     

In the closing remarks, ZHANG Yaping affirmed IHB’s achievements in research and platform construction. He hoped IHB shall further strengthen its personnel construction and establish high level and influential disciplines with unique features that could meet the major requirements of the state and its social development.
