Prof. TIAN Xiaoli from Nanchang University paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on April 12, 2017. During his visit, he gave an academic report with the title of "Genetic determination of lifespan".
Prof. Tian introduced FOXO1A and FOXO3A which were molecules belonging to downstream signaling pathways and mediated by insulin or insulin-like growth factor. They were closely related to cell cycle, growth, apoptosis and angiogenesis. In terms of metabolism, their main functions were to balance the sensitivity and resistance of insulin, and to have impact on cancer, autoimmune diseases and cardiovascular diseases such as ischemic heart disease and cardiac hypertrophy.
By comparing the FOXO1A and FOXO3A genotypes in the longevity population and the general population, scientists found that these two genes were associated with longevity, and FOXO1A was associated with female longevity, whereas FOXO3A gene had no gender differences.
Prof. Tian Xiaoli is the president of the College of Life Sciences, Nanchang University, director of the Institute of Human Senescence, Nanchang University, and the chief scientist in the 973 project supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology "vascular aging and related diseases of the biological basis". His research team is mainly committed to use population genetics and model animals and other means to study the genetic mechanism about aging of cardiovascular and aging-related cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
