Deputy Mayor of Wuhan Visits IHB
LIU Yingzi, deputy mayor of Wuhan, visited Baiji Dolphinarium on July 11, 2017.
An eight-member delegation led by LIU Yingzi, deputy mayor of Wuhan, paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on July 11, 2017.
The delegation visited the Baiji Dolphinarium, Museum for Aquatic Organisms and China Zebrafish Resource Center. The deputy mayor positively commented on IHB’s work in species breeding, and the construction of the supporting platforms and facilities. She said that the image of Yangtze finless porpoise could be chosen as the mascot of big event. She also hoped the Museum for Aquatic Organisms could play actively role in popularizing scientific knowledge.
IHB’s deputy director XU Xudong chaired the seminar arranged for this visit. HE Feng, head of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at IHB, introduced the overview of the institute. All the attendees had in-depth discussion on the settlement of the major S&T issues by the joint efforts of the experts in the field of life sciences in Wuhan.
Prof. ZHU Zuoyan said that achievements in agriculture sciences were prominent in Wuhan. He proposed that IHB shall join all the academic strengths in freshwater fishery. IHB’s deputy directors Prof. XIE Shouqi and Prof. XU Xudong hoped Wuhan municipal government could invest more to the construction of major S&T facilities.
In her conclusion, Liu said that Wuhan is a metropolis with distinguished strengths in science and education resources. The city shall give full play to its academic strengths and try to build itself as a national science and innovation center step by step.
