CZRC Holds Genomic Editing Technology Training Courses

Students in the theory course

The sixth and seventh national zebrafish technical training courses which were organized by China Zebrafish Resource Center were held continuously from September 5 to 8, and from September 12 to 15 at Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences. These two training sessions were based on the use of genomic editing techniques in zebrafish. 34 students from 27 research institutes, hospitals and companies across china participated in the training sessions.

The contents of the sessions included genomic editing techniques, gRNA target design, knockout efficiency assessment, genetic manipulation of zebrafish embryos and microinjection, zebrafish farming techniques, common zebrafish disease and zebrafish healthy maintenance, CRISPR / Cas9 technology, and the latest developments and applications of zebrafish research.

The training sessions not only had theory courses and experimental classes but also provided a personalized gene knockout service. Each participant could submit an interested gene, which could be implemented with gRNA target design and knockout operation by the participants themselves during the training session. At the end of the course, the F0 generation of the knock-out gene embryos would be attained.

The training session also arranged visits to China Zebrafish Resource Center and workshop for problem solving in the common technical issues of zebrafish farming. After the training session, all the participants were invited to participate in the anonymous course assessment. In the 32 assessment questionnaires, the comprehensive satisfaction reached 9 points (out of 10). 90% of the students would like to recommend this training session to others.

China Zebrafish Resource Center also extensively collected the participants' needs for zebrafish technical training and technical services. In the future, China Zebrafish Resource Center will hold national training based on these needs and further improve the content and quality of the training courses.
