Prof. ZHU Zuoyan (CAS academician) gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the 8th Cross-Strait Symposium on Fish Physiology and Aquaculture held in Xiamen, 26-29 October, 2017.

The 8th Cross-Strait Symposium on Fish Physiology and Aquaculture was held at Xiamen University during 26-29 October, 2017.The theme of the symposium is healthy and sustainable development of aquaculture. More than 200 experts and scholars from Chinese Mainland and Taiwan，America and Britain attended this symposium and discussed topics on  fish physiology, reproduction, sex determination, immunization, genetic breeding, etc. 

Prof. ZHU Zuoyuan (CAS academician), Prof. GUI Jianfang (CAS academician), Prof. NIE Pin and Prof. HU Wei from Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the symposium. Prof. ZHU Zuoyuan served as chairman of the academic committee of the Symposium and gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the symposium. Prof. GUI Jianfang gave a keynote speech with the title of “The Origin and Evolution of Sex Determining Mechanisms of polyploid gibel carp”. Prof. NIE Pin and Prof. HU Wei introduced their research progress of relevant fields respectively. 

Cross-Strait Symposium on Fish Physiology and Aquaculture was jointly launched by Prof. ZHU Zuoyuan and Prof. LIU Shaojun from Hunan Normal University, Prof. LIAO Chiu (Academia Sinica academician) and president Chang Ching-Fong from National Taiwan Ocean University. Since its establishment in 2007, the symposium has served as a platform for researchers from cross-strait to interact with each other and thus promote the cross-strait academic exchanges and cooperation. This symposium is sponsored by Xiamen University and co-organized by the Third Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration. The 2th symposium was held by IHB in 2008.
