Prof. HUANG Sanwen from Agricultural Genomics Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences visited IHB on October 15th, 2018.
Prof. HUANG Sanwen from Agricultural Genomics Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences visited Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on October 15th, 2018. During his visit, he made a presentation with the title of “Genomic design for vegetable breeding” for IHB researchers and students.
In the presentation, Prof. Huang introduced the research progress of cucumber, tomato and potato genomics research carried out by his research team in recent years. His research team used genomics analysis to obtain important theoretical findings in the regulation of bitterness of South China cucumber, flavor of tomato, and self-incompatibility of potato.
They have cultivated new species of vegetables with promising applications using these new findings. They put forward the "Youshu Plan". His presentation showed us the ideas of combining genomics research with new species cultivation.
After the presentation, IHB researchers and students communicated with Prof. Huang regarding issues related to genomics research and vegetable breeding.
Prof. HUANG Sanwen is the director of the Agricultural Genomics Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the chairman of the National Agricultural Genome Technology Innovation Alliance. He has extensive international influence in the field of plant genomics and horticulture. He served as the chief scientist of the “973” project. He was selected as the “Million Plan”, supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholar. He won the “Chuguangzhao Foundation” Science Award.
