IHB Holds Laboratory Safety Training Class

 

IHB’s deputy director Prof. XIE Shouqi listed some cases of laboratory safety and emphasized the significance of laboratory safety. 

Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences held the first laboratory safety training class in 2019 in the lecture hall of the No. 3 Laboratory Building on January 2, 2019. More than 100 researchers, including principal investigators, laboratory security officers and graduate students, participated in the class.   

IHB’s deputy director Prof. XIE Shouqi listed some cases of laboratory safety and emphasized the significance of laboratory safety. He said, “When doing experiments, we should pay special attention to the safety issues because it ensures whether the research can be carried out as expected.”   

KUANG Xin’an, security supervisor of General Affairs Office, introduced some problems found in the regular inspection of laboratory safety, as well as the procedures and regulations on the management of dangerous chemicals.    

CAI Lipeng, research assistant of Center for Microalgal Biotechnology & Biofuels, introduced laboratory safety knowledge and first-aid knowledge from three aspects, including basic safety, reagent management and equipment management and safety.    

Participants had discussion on the procurement and storage of hazardous chemicals, waste disposal, laboratory safety management, laboratory biological safety and other issues.   

This training class aimed to further enhance the safety awareness of IHB researchers, improve their laboratory safety knowledge and skills, and strengthen the laboratory safety management.
