Executive Vice Chairman of Hubei Provincial Committee of CPPCC Visits IHB

LI Bing, executive vice chairman of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, visited IHB on April 16, 2019.

LI Bing, executive vice chairman of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), together with YE Zelin, deputy secretary-general of the Hubei Provincial Committee of CPPCC, paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese academy of sciences on April 16, 2019 to investigate the Hubei major S&T infrastructure projects and its planning at IHB.

LI Bing appreciated the achievements made by IHB in aquatic ecology, aquatic environment and aquatic biodiversity conservation, and affirmed IHB’s contributions to the national and local economic and social development.

In his closing remarks, Li proposed three suggestions. One is to further study President XI Jinping's statements on S&T innovation, grasp the opportunity of scientific development, and clarify the responsibilities and missions of researchers in building a community of shared future for mankind. Two is to rely on the resource advantages of Hubei province, make efforts to improve the independent innovation ability, build a comprehensive national science center in Wuhan, and actively promote the leap-forward development of Hubei province from a big S&T province to a strong S&T province. Three is that IHB shall take the initiative to establish the Yangtze River laboratory by taking advantages of water resources in Hubei province and integrate resources across the country, especially the innovative resources in the Yangtze River Economic Belt regions.

Li also put forth four perspectives on the research directions of the lab. One is to resort to a grander scale of perspective when setting the research goals. Two is to do the design from a more microscopic perspective. Three is that human living environment and life health shall be kept in mind. Four is that researchers shall give play to their strengths and advantages.
