The online promotion activity for 2020 Hubei International Biodiversity Day, launched by the Department of Ecology Environment of Hubei Province, was held at the Museum of Hydrobiological Sciences under Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on May 22, 2020.
In the one and a half hours live broadcast, 1.8 million people joined the online activity, far more than the number of the annual visitors to the museum.
Since May, in addition to live broadcast, the museum recorded the online public science course designed by the Wuhan Branch of the CAS and made a three-minute video for a local primary school in Wuhan to send best wishes to the students who celebrated the Children’s Day on June 1.
Affected by the covid-19, the demand for online streaming is burgeoning. The Museum of Hydrobiological Sciences has been constructing and developing its hardware and software for online science popularization.
In 2016, the museum set up a special cable and a wireless network for its exhibition hall. They also developed an app and a VR presents the museum in 720-degree panoramic environment. The museum will continue to explore new ways to popularize science.
