A delegation led by YIN Zhan, acting director of Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province, to examine the protection and ecological restoration of the Lake Dianchi, on July 20.

Yin first visited an ecological wetland park of Lake Dianchi where the director general of the Dianchi Administration Bureaun, FU Wen, introduced the pollution control and treatment, as well as the ecological restoration of the lake, to the visiting delegation.

The Lake Dianchi has seen a continuous improvement in its water quality. Since 2019, the water quality remains at Grade IV in China's five-tier quality system for surface water, according to Fu.

"We are so thankful to IHB for your decades of efforts in the pollution control and ecological restoration of the Dianchi Lake," Fu said.

When visiting an algae-water separation station in Longmen, located at the west bank of the Dianchi Lake, Yin learned about the technologies of controlling the cyanobacterial blooms in the lake.

At the demonstration site of ecological restoration engineering located at the north part of the Lake Dianchi, otherwise known as inner lake or grass lake, because of its widespread algae, the president of the Dianchi Academy of Plateau Lakes DU Jinsong introduced the restoration underway for the water ecology of the lake.

The demonstration site is an auxiliary project to IHB’s project sponsored by the National Water Pollution Control and Treatment Science and Technology Major Project of the national 12th Five-Year Plan. The coverage of aquatic plants in site reached 46%, indicating an evident improvement of water quality in the macroplankton restoration area.

During his trip to Yunnan, the delegation led by Yin also interacted with the vice mayor of Kunming. Both sides conveyed wishes to collaborate intimately at multiple levels.
