Prof. Zongwei Cai from Hong Kong Baptist University was invited to visit Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on October 12th, 2015. During his visit, he gave a lecture with the title of “Based on mass spectrometry for metabolomics-proteomics study on molecular toxicology of emerging persistent organic pollutants”.
In his report, Prof. Cai introduced the application of mass spectrometry in life science and the application of metabonomics in environmental toxicology, with an emphasize on the application of mass spectrometry based metabolomics methods in the molecular toxicological research of the emerging persistent organic pollutants. Prof. Cai took dioxins as an example to introduce the researches in his lab on the dioxin metabolomics. In the end, he gave an introduction of the national laboratory for environmental and biological analysis and the metabolomics-proteomics research platform at Hong Kong Baptist University.
Prof. Cai is now a Chair Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Director of Dioxin Laboratory, Hong Kong Baptist University. Prof. Cai received the “Distinguished Young Scholar Award” (Oversea, Hong Kong and Macao) from Nature Science Foundation of China in 2003. He was named as “Overseas Renowned Scholar” by Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2005. He has recently been appointed as Editor of Rapid Communication in Mass Spectrometry. In addition, he has served as editorial board members for several international scientific journals. The major research interest of Prof. Cai is the method development and applications of chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry for trace analysis in complex systems such as environment, food and biological matrices.
Prof. Cai has published over 230 peer-refereed journals, with excellent citation record from worldwide. He received “Top cited article 2001-2006 Award” in 2006 from Journal of Chromatography (Elsevier) and “Top-50 most cited articles in 2005-2010 Award” in 2010 from Chemosphere (Elsevier). His collaborative research with colleagues of Chinese Academic of Sciences was award for the 2nd price of the National Natural Sciences in 2011. In 2008, he was invited as the “Principal Author” to lead an expert group for writing UNEP Asian-Pacific regional report on Persistent Organic Pollutants under the Stockholm Convention.
