The Fifth Chinese Zebrafish Principal Investigator Meeting (Credit: IHB)

The Fifth Chinese Zebrafish Principal Investigator Meeting was held in Wuhan during November 13 and 15.    

The meeting featured new research progress in maternal factors and early development, hematogenesis and function, fish physiology and metabolism, cancer and disease models, pharmaceutical chemistry and toxicology, neurology and stem cells, cardiovascular development and disease, cilia and gametogenesis.    

Prof. SUN Yonghua, executive chairman of the organizing committee, chaired the opening ceremony of the meeting. He is the director of the National Aquatic Biological Resource Center (NABRC) and head of the China Zebrafish Resource Center (CZRC), which is one of the sub-platforms of the NABRC.   

Professors addressed at the opening ceremony were Prof. ZHU Zuoyan (CAS member) from IHB, Prof. MENG Anming (CAS member) from Tsinghua University, and Prof. LIU Feng from Institute of Zoology (IOZ) of Chinese Academy of Sciences.    

Keynote speakers included Prof. Mary Mullins from University of Pennsylvania; Prof. LIU Feng from IOZ; Prof. YIN Zhan from IHB; Prof. DU Jiulin from Center for Excellence in Britain Science and Intelligence Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.    

The two-day meeting consisted of more than 60 oral presentations given by scholars and young scientists from related fields.   

The 2020 Zeiss - Zebrafish Scientific Research Award, in recognition of students, postdocs and young scientists who have outstanding contribution in zebrafish studies, was presented at the meeting. The award was launched by China Zoological Society and Carl Zeiss Shanghai.   

The recent meeting was its largest ever with over 300 scholars gathered in Wuhan. The Chinese Zebrafish Principal Investigator Meeting is a biennial meeting series that represents the highest academic level of zebrafish studies in the Chinese community.    

The meeting is hosted by the CZRC which is becoming one of the major resource centers in the global zebrafish community.
