GAO Hongjun, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on June 17, 2021.

Gao visited the 87-year old fish biologist Prof. CAO Wenxuan and listened to his suggestions on the protection of the Yangtze River.

Cao talked about the 10-year fishing ban and introduced the progress made in the ecological environmental protection and restoration of the Chishui River area.

“The Chishui River is the last undammed tributary of the upper Yangtze River. IHB is constructing the Chishui Field Station to conserve the rare and endemic fishes of the upper Yangtze River and monitor the River’s ecosystem”, Cao said.

Gao fully affirmed IHB’s role in protecting the ecology of the Yangtze.

Later, he visited the Museum of Hydrobiological Sciences, China Zebrafish Resource Center, and the Historical Development Museum.
